The Lahore Counter-Terrorism Court (ATC) sentenced first and other defendants Abid Malhi and Shafkat Ali to death in a highway rape case that sparked outrage across the country last year.
On September 9, 2020, the defendants Malhi and Shafkat alias Baga raped a woman in the Gujjarpura area while waiting for help on the highway after their car ran out of fuel.
ATC Judge Arshad Hussein Bhuta announced the verdict at the prison camp, where prison authorities introduced the two defendants in today’s verdict.
The convicts were sentenced to death after prosecutors filed a lawsuit against them.
The court also sentenced two convicted kidnappers and 14 years in prison for each of the robbery defendants.
