A suspect who admitted to attacking Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza with a sharp weapon on Sunday afternoon has been arrested and a case has been filed against him.
Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza, a resident of Machine Mohallah in Jellum, regularly posts footage and live videos of lectures and speeches to his social media pages and has 4.6 million followers on his YouTube channel.
In the First Information Report (FIR) on the incident, which was recorded on Mirza’s complaint under Article 324 (Attempted Murder) of the Pakistani Criminal Code, the priest stated that he received a weekly reward (Islamic class) for a research academy in a building.
After Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza gave a lecture on Sunday afternoon, said FIR, the man accused by the cleric of being armed with sharp weapons was “with the intention of killing” in front of many people. According to a police spokesman, the incident occurred when Mirza was taking photos after college.
In his complaint, Mirza said that although the assailant grabbed him by the neck, he moved quickly and was slapped on the shoulder. The attacker then made a second attempt to reach Mirza but was stopped by two men present in the hall, according to FIR.
Last May, Yelum police arrested Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza and made derogatory and provocative statements against a prominent cleric. He was released a day later after the local court accepted his request for bail.
