The Lahore High Court (LHC) has received a petition calling for a ban on the use of TikTok over virtual private networks (VPNs) and proxies.
The petitioner claimed that people still use the app to share videos via VPNs and proxies, even though it has been banned by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA).
The plaintiff requested the court for instructions from the relevant authorities to block access to the Chinese app via VPNs and proxies.
The PTA banned TikTok on Oct. 9 for failing to regulate offensive and vulgar content.
In a statement, the PTA said it has received complaints from various segments of society about immoral / indecent content on the video sharing app.
Before the popular app was banned, the telecommunications watchdog sent several letters to Tiktok’s management about obscene content, ordering them to regulate it according to the laws of the country.
But the regulator received no response from the app, after which he ordered the app to be blocked.
