King Charles praised as ‘amazing’ single parent after Diana’s death

Since Princess Diana’s death in 1997, King Charles has been regarded as a “wonderful” single dad to Prince William and Prince Harry.

Prince Harry told Oprah Winfrey in 2021 that his father Charles had “let him down,” but royal analyst Katie Nicholl defends the 74-year-old monarch’s parenting methods, especially after Diana’s death.

Nicholl told OK! Magazine, “Charles was a great single dad.” Anyone who hasn’t been there can’t imagine.

“Not least with the world’s media analyzing how good you are, how often you’re around, and how in touch you are with your adolescent children,” she continued.

Nicholl noted that King Charles’ challenges as a single father were much more obvious as he raised his adolescent kids in public; William and Harry were 15 and 12 when Diana died.

“Charles dealt with a lot of the ups and downs that parents face, like Harry going off the rails and drinking before he was old enough to do so.” Nicholl: “He did his best in a tough position.”

“He took—aand still takes—hhis role as a father very seriously.” His parenting approach is different but equally caring, loyal, and committed. “Everyone I interviewed for my book, The New Royals, said he’s a great father to William and Harry,” Nicholl said.

The statements come months before Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare comes out in January 2023; royal admirers worry he may further sully King Charles and Prince William.
