Kate Middleton is eager to attend the opening ceremony to commemorate Princess Diana on Thursday. However, she had to live with her three children; George, Charlotte, and Louis.
“Out of respect for [Prince] Harry and William, the [Royal Family] wanted it to be just Diana’s son and not a big public affair,” a source told Us Weekly.
“Kate definitely supported William until he was physically there and really wanted to attend, but the family as a whole decided it was best for the kids to stay home,” the insider added.
Cambridge was determined to attend the ceremony “a few weeks ago”. Kate was unable to be present in person and “watch from a distance” with her children.
The royals are expected to visit the statue “later,” the source said.
A statue of Princess Diana was unveiled at Kensington Palace by her sons Princes William and Harry on her 60th birthday on July 1.
