The buses that were purchased from China for the Green Line project have been transferred from the Karachi port to the Surjani Bus Terminal.
A total of 150,000 passengers will benefit from the Green Line buses running from Sujrani Town to the Numaish Chowrangi route in the first phase, which will be completed in two phases.
The concerned authorities have stated that a test run of the buses with a small number of passengers will take place next month.
It is important to note that the first consignment of 40 buses for the Green Line bus rapid transit system (BRTS) arrived in the city earlier this month, which was a significant milestone.
As part of the Karachi Transformation Plan (KTP), Sindh Governor Imran Ismail had stated during a ceremony at the Karachi Port to mark the delivery of the fleet: “Another significant milestone has been reached with the arrival of the buses in accordance with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s announcement of the KTP.”
The Green Line BRT project with junctions in Karachi is 24 kilometers long, comprising 12.7 kilometers of elevated track, 10.9 kilometers of grade track, and 422 kilometers of underground track, and it has 25 stations.
On M.A. Jinnah Road, there are two underpasses that serve the phase II common corridor that runs from Gurumandir to Municipal Park and is 2.5 kilometers long.
Additionally, in the Pakistani city of Numaish, work was beginning on a state-of-the-art underground bus terminal with parking and a commercial mezzanine floor, which was scheduled to open in 2015.
Construction on Phase I began in 2016, with the first phase of the project completed in 2018.
