Karachi BRT project receives 40 bus cargo ships

Earlier this month, a cargo ship carrying buses for the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project landed in Pakistan, bringing public transportation in Karachi one step closer to receiving a much-needed boost.

The cargo ship Feng Shen, which was carrying 40 buses, arrived in Pakistani waters on Sunday, according to port authorities.

According to the officials, the second cargo of 40 buses from China will arrive in Pakistan during the first week of October.

Asad Umar, the federal Minister for Planning and Development and Special Initiatives, recently announced the arrival of the first shipment of the new equipment.

On the same day that the BRT project in Karachi was to be launched, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said that the project will be completed in a month’s time.

The project had been initiated by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2016, with the goal of completing it within a year of its inception. Although the project was started, it was left unfinished for a variety of reasons.
