Jamshed Cheema and wife move LHC after nomination rejection

PTI candidates for NA-133 By-poll in Lahore After the returning officer and an electoral tribunal refused to accept Jamshed Cheema’s nomination papers, he and his wife went to the Lahore High Court.

They asked the court to postpone the by-election until the case was resolved. The RO had rejected the couple’s nomination papers since their proposer was not a registered voter in the district. They appealed to the election tribunal, which dismissed their case and affirmed the verdict.

PML-N voters disputed the PTI candidates’ nomination papers, claiming proposer Bilal Hussain lacked the required qualifications under the Elections Act, 2017.

The death of PML-N MNA Pervez Malik left NA 133 vacant in Lahore. The Election Commission of Pakistan announced a by-election on Dec 5 with Pervez Malik’s widow Shaista Malik as the PML-N candidate.
