Ishaq Dar, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), announced on Thursday that he will take oath as a senator.
Dar was elected as a senator from Punjab in 2018 on a technocrat seat. Due to his stay in London, he was unable to take the oath. His membership was suspended by the SC after he failed to appear in court on May 8, 2018.
Ishaq Dar wrote in a letter to Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani that he is ready to take the oath as a senator whenever ‘legal hurdles’ are removed.
Dar further stated that he is now undergoing medical treatment in the United Kingdom (UK) and will be unable to attend in person.
The PML-N stalwart has asked the Senate chairman to make arrangements for his oath through a virtual video link, and if that is not possible, any responsible body in the UK should be asked to make arrangements for the oath under Article 255.

A copy of the letter has also been sent to Pakistan’s Election Commission.
The news comes after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared on February 21 that it would consider a petition seeking Ishaq Dar’s disqualification as a senator.
The appeal was filed by advocate Azhar Siddique, who asked the commission to disqualify Dar as a member of the country’s Upper House of Parliament under Article 63 of the country’s Constitution.
In the plea, Siddiqui claimed that a court labeled the PML-N senator-elect a defaulter in the issue of Atta ul Haq Qasmi’s appointment as chairman and managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV).
