The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has written to the Chief Commissioner Islamabad and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, urging them to take necessary measures to secure state buildings and properties, including police lines, in the event of the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
In one letter addressed to Islamabad Chief Commissioner Noor-ul-Amin Mangel and IGP Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the IB recommended securing the premises where Imran Khan is currently being held, as well as the adjacent buildings, to prevent any untoward incidents due to the potential threat of attacks by miscreants.
Imran Khan’s Inflammatory Statements and their Consequences
Imran Khan has been making inflammatory statements against institutions, leading to violent incidents across the country. The IB highlighted in its letter that Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi has been inciting the public against state institutions in his speeches for a considerable amount of time, resulting in riots across the country, including the federal capital.
The agency’s letter pointed out that PTI protesters have caused significant damage to government and private properties. They have also blocked roads and disrupted the entry of essential supplies into the city, causing inconvenience to the general public.
Potential Threats and the Need for Enhanced Security Measures
The release of Imran Khan could potentially trigger a strong reaction from protesters, posing a threat to the lives and property of citizens. To counter this situation, the IB emphasized the need to increase security measures for government buildings and properties, including police lines.
The letter warned of the possibility of intensified mob reactions against institutions if Imran Khan is released, leading to potential harm to innocent lives and property. The IB suggested that effective precautionary measures must be taken to counter any nefarious designs by miscreants.
