Pakistan and India exchanged list of their citizens which are prisoners and held in their respective prisons.
Pakistan has sent the Indian High Commission a list of 609 Indian detainees which includes 51 civilians and 558 fishermen. Similarly, the Indian government simultaneously informed the Pakistan High Commission of a list of 345 Pakistani detainees in India, including 271 civilians and 74 fishermen.
This step is in line with paragraph (i) of the consular access agreement between Pakistan and India signed on 21 May 2008. In this both parties have required to take place twice a year on 1 January and July respectively. It does not include prisoners held for espionage or other war crimes.
On January 1, 2021, Pakistan notified India’s High Commission in the federal capital of a list of 319 Indian detainees. These have currently held in the prisons which include 49 civilians and 270 fishermen. Moreover, The Indian government has also shared list of 340 Pakistani prisoners in India, including 263 civilians and 77 fishermen.
