As a fighting broke out between Afghan security forces and the advancing Taliban, Indian government has closed its last consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif. India sent an Air Force plane into Afghanistan to withdraw its citizens. Moreover, Diplomats and other officials return home on special flights.
Although, India has invested millions of dollars in development projects with government across Afghanistan. But it has now closed all of its consulates and left only its embassy in Kabul, a government official said.
In addition to, India’s largest opposition party has also asked the government to help evacuate Sikh and Hindu communities from Afghanistan. It is to protect them from Taliban attacks. One of the Congressman estimated there are about only 750 Sikhs and Hindus in the country.
Recently, Taliban fighters have conquered six provincial capitals in Afghanistan’s north, west and south.
