Imran Khan, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday. This came as a shock to the party’s leaders, who were expecting Khan to be granted an extension in the two remaining bails. The arrest was in connection with a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
One of the most prominent reactions to the arrest came from Fawad Chaudhry, a leader of the PTI party. According to reports, Chaudhry grabbed his brother by the hand and was heard saying: “Imran phharya gaya ay, chal aaja [Irman Khan has been arrested. Let’s go.]” However, he did not join the lawyers who were protesting outside the IHC.
Protests erupted in various cities across the country following Khan’s arrest. However, the IHC declared the arrest legal late on Tuesday. Today, Khan is set to appear before an accountability court for a hearing on the Al-Qadir Trust case.
