Imran Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), once again pointed his guns at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday as he alleged pre-poll rigging, particularly tampering with electoral lists, in advance of by-elections on 20 seats of the Punjab Assembly on July 17. These by-elections will take place on July 17.
In spite of this, the commission notified five members of the PTI that they would be filling reserved seats that had become vacant as a result of the de-seating of MPAs who had voted for Hamza Shehbaz in the election for the position of chief minister of Punjab. This took place while the former premier was delivering his fiery address.
Mr. Khan, while addressing a public gathering in Mor 90, a constituency (PP-202) of Sahiwal, where PTI candidate retired Major Sarwar will take on former colleague and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket holder Malik Nauman Langrial in by-elections later this month, thanked his supporters for attending the rally despite the rain. He said this while he was addressing the crowd in his speech.
Imran Khan, who was removed from power as a result of a vote of the no-confidence cast against him in April of this year, has stated once again that a “foreign conspiracy” resulted in the “tanking of the economy” in Pakistan as a direct result of the imposition of a group of alleged corrupt individuals on Pakistan.
Mr. Khan made these remarks in response to a question on the election watchdog: “The electoral commission lacks conscience… The ECP is conspiring with these criminals and turncoats, and it is attempting to sway the elections in favor of [these] crooks.
The chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) issued the following challenge to the government: “If you think you can win the match through collusion with ‘umpires,’ I challenge you that we will defeat you in the elections.” He went on to say that the government would not be able to defeat the PTI even with the support of the powers-that-be.
Mr. Khan said that voters’ lists were being tampered with in order to add “bogus votes,” and he requested the nominees for his party to verify the lists in advance of the elections in order to eliminate any votes that were invalid. On the day of the election, the previous premier requested that “ten courageous teenagers” be stationed at each polling location so that they could “block” their opponents from manipulating the polls. This was done in an effort to prevent electoral fraud.
During the course of the lecture, Imran Khan brought up the topic of the ongoing crackdown on PTI supporters, which has included the media. According to Mr. Khan, the country is currently under the control of a “cabal of crooks,” but “we are being advised not to criticize it in order to escape penalization.” The leader of the PTI issued a warning that anyone who supported these “crooks” will be held responsible for their actions by the entire nation. Mr. Khan remarked, without mentioning any specific individuals, “Neither the nation nor history would forgive you.”
The leader of the PTI also issued a warning that Pakistan will be driven toward “anarchy” if PTI supporters were prevented from organizing peaceful protests. He went on to say that if constraints were placed on the right to demonstrate, Pakistan would end up like Sri Lanka or Lebanon, two countries that are currently undergoing a severe political and economic upheaval. He stated that the cases that had been filed against the PTI would not be able to dissuade people from participating in the “war” for “true freedom.”
