I’m willing to bat at No. 5 if necessary in T20 World Cup : Shoaib Malik

Pakistani veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik hopes to be part of the national team for the T20 World Cup and says the Pakistan team is struggling to find a suitable batsman at number five and he will be available for that spot to bat.

Shoaib Malik said he still did not know the reason for his expulsion from the Pakistan T20 team, having last represented the national team on the England tour in 2020, a key selection criterion.

“I don’t understand why I left the team. I don’t want to rule this out. It doesn’t matter how old you are. You have to meet the team’s criteria for performance and fitness. The most important thing is that if you as a senior player keep the dressing room healthy and respect your management and young players, then nothing else matters,” he said as quoted by cricketpakistan.com.pk.

“Mohammad Hafiz is playing very well for the team and I have seen him lead new players. When an experienced player like him is in your team, it gives the team management and the players confidence,” Shoaib Malik said.

Shoaib Malik is also optimistic about the T20 World Cup match later that year. “I still believe that I can be useful in the T20 format. I don’t think I will play in the T20 World Cup, I still hope to go to the World Cup and do my best. I always present myself well to my teammates and my team, but I don’t like to make a fuss. Whenever a young captain, young players and young management needed me, I was always approachable,” Shoaib Malik said.
