According to a petition seeking the initiation of contempt of court proceedings against the head of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued a notice to the NAB chief regarding his failure to investigate the assets of former military ruler General (retired) Pervez Musharraf.
It was heard by a two-judge panel consisting of Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Sardar Ishaq Khan on the plea submitted by Advocate Inamul Rahim, who identified former National Accountability Bureau Chief Justice (retd), Javed Iqbal, as a respondent in his petition.
The petitioner argued in front of the court that this court had ruled that the anti-corruption watchdog might probe the assets of the former president, who was still holding public office at the time of the decision.

During the hearing, the chief judge inquired of the counsel, who replied in the negative. “Was that verdict of ours challenged before any forum?” the top justice asked.
He claimed that despite providing proof to the NAB, the agency did not take action against Gen Pervez Musharraf.
According to the asset information provided to the Election Commission of Pakistan by the former military ruler, the petitioner claims Musharraf’s one bank account has a balance of around $2 million.
Following the initial hearing, the court issued a notice to the NAB chairman, instructing him to file his response to the petition by the next hearing, which is scheduled for February 15.
