ICC is considering relocating the 2021 T20 World Cup from India to the United Arab Emirates

This year’s T20 Men’s World Cup could be moved from India to the United Arab Emirates, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday.

The move appears to have been triggered by the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in India, although this was not directly mentioned in the statement from the global regulatory agency.

“The ICC Board of Directors has asked management to focus its planning efforts on the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2020 at an event hosted in the UAE with possible involvement elsewhere in the Middle East,” said Explanation.

The ICC added that a final decision on the host country for the October-November event would be made later this month.

The statement comes just two days after India’s cricket boss announced that the lucrative Indian Premier League T20 tournament, which was suspended in India following the new wave of Covid-19,In September and October, the United Arab Emirates would come to an end.

Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Control Board (BCCI) has announced that it will ask the ICC more time to decide whether India, the sporting economic powerhouse and one of the country’s leading nations, can still host the T20 World Cup.

The IPL, the world’s richest cricket tournament, was halfway through on May 4 after a number of players and team members contracted the coronavirus, despite being based on a bio-safe bubble.

However, the BCCI said it was moving the remainder of the games to the United Arab Emirates – which hosted the IPL last year – due to the monsoon season and made no mention of the pandemic.
