Health Pakistan will determine the resumption of educational institutions: Shafqat Mehmood

Health Pakistan will determine the resumption of schools and other educational institutions, Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood said in his final tweet on Saturday.

The Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) is scheduled to take place on January 4, 2021 to review the coronavirus pandemic situation and decide when to open schools and other educational institutions.

“Among other things, the analysis of the health situation will be of the utmost importance in determining the reopening of educational institutions,” Mehmud said in a tweet.’

Previously, IPEMC had decided to close all schools, colleges and universities starting November 26 and announced that a review meeting would be held in the first week of January.

Two days earlier, Mehmood answered media inquiries: “IPEMC will meet on January 4 to review the pandemic situation in the country and decide on resuming educational institutions.”

Previously, the Minister of Education, Sind Said Ghani, had said that after assessing the situation of the corona virus, it seemed unlikely that educational institutions would reopen in January 2021.

Ghani reiterated his ministry’s position that, unlike previous academic years, no student will be promoted next year without taking exams this year.

Meanwhile, private school owners have threatened to march to Islamabad if schools are not allowed to continue classes on January 11.
