Islamabad IGP informs PM on developments in the case of couples harassment

Qazi Jamilur Rehman, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Islamabad, met with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday and updated him on the progress made in a couple’s sexual assault and harassment case.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, the IGP is personally monitoring the case following the arrest of the suspects to ensure criminal action.
“All scientific approaches are being applied to gather further evidence, according to the premier. The IGP also briefed Prime Minister Imran Khan on the state of law and order in Islamabad “According to the statement.

Police detained four people earlier this week after a video showing them detaining a couple at gunpoint, forcing them to strip, and then beating them up went viral. The incident took place in an E-11/2 apartment.

In the Golra police station cases were filed under Articles 341, 354a (assault or use of the law against and strip of garments of a woman), 507 (ii) and 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code (word, gestures or acts aimed at insulting a woman’s modesty).

The case was filed on behalf of the state, and the complainant was Sub-Inspector Syed Asim Ghafar.

On Thursday, police officers investigating the case claimed the apprehended men might have been members of an organized crime gang.

Officials stated that scores of similar recordings were retrieved from the suspects’ phones and that they were being reviewed to identify people who had been abused.

According to preliminary investigations and videos recovered from their cell phones, this was not the first incident in the area.

According to them, a handful of the occurrences were brought to the attention of the police, but no action was done. According to the officials, the suspects’ methods reflected organized criminality, who added that the suspects were property and vehicle dealers who had purchased flats in the vicinity.

They rented the apartments out for a day or even just a few hours. The accused then went for the couples who rented out the flats, assaulting them and filming them. They’d start blackmailing them after that.

The SSP study revealed late at night that the two had wedded a video message.

After visiting them with other officers, including a female ASP, he made the announcement. Officials from the police department promised the couple that they would be safe. The pair had agreed to be complainants in the lawsuit, he claimed.
