Through its Women Techmaker initiative, Google trained more than 800 Pakistani women to code this year. As part of IWD celebrations, the events talked about important topics like online safety, coding, and public speaking.
This year’s hashtag for International Women’s Day is #ProgressNotPerfection. The idea is to celebrate women’s progress in all its forms instead of focusing on ideas of failure or perfection. In keeping with the theme, Google held Women Techmaker initiative sessions where influential women talked about how they overcame challenges in their lives and careers. Attendees also got the chance to network with other professionals in the field. Make connections that can lead to future opportunities.
Farhan S. Qureshi, who is in charge of Google in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, said the following:
Google holds events to honor the contributions of women in technology to encourage more women in Pakistan to work in the field. We hope that more women who work in tech will step up as role models for other women. Just like the Women Techmakers ambassadors, it has done a great job this year of putting together important. Helpful projects for the women’s developer community.
Speaking as a WTM Ambassador in Karachi, Hira Tariq said:
According to what we heard, the Women Techmakers seminars gave the local women’s groups a lot of ideas and helped many of the women who went feel capable of going after their own goals. Following the motto #ProgressNotPerfection. We have hopefully spread the idea that it is okay for women to make mistakes and that small victories for the women’s community are then celebrated.
