This is something we all do when trying to clean up after a Chrome marathon session. If you close partitions too often (or if you’re very enthusiastic about pressing Ctrl+W), it’s all too easy to close a partition by accident. Luckily, it’s very easy process of reopening tabs you accidentally closed in Chrome. Chrome gives you a few ways to do it – but new features in the browser help speed up the process.
With the handy partition key combination (Ctrl + Shift + T) readily available. There isn’t much Google can do to make the desire to recover partitions go faster. So the company has come up with a technique to make the recovery process faster.
You may have noticed that there is a slight delay before the page in question loads and has navigated when you use a keyboard shortcut – or even a tab context menu or history tool – for reopening closed tabs in Chrome. Google is working to speed this up by providing a new cache.
Unsurprisingly, it has called closed tab cache, an extension of the reverse caching feature that makes navigating between pages faster by keeping them in memory as you navigate. By putting the partition in memory after closing, instead of just deleting it, Google can speed up partition recovery.
A bunch of cache
This feature has been available on the Android version of Chrome for a while – not many people will notice – and now Google is rolling it out on the desktop version of its browser.
Chrome 94 Canary has required to take advantage of this (currently experimental) feature. It can be downloaded from here if interested. But even with this preview version installed, you have to manually enable closed tab cache using the following steps:
Start Chrome and visit Chrome://Flags/#closed-tab-cache
Use the drop-down menu to select Enabled
Restart Chrome and enjoy opening closed tabs faster
Analysis: Important speed improvements
It makes a lot of sense to speed up recovering tabs that have accidentally closed. And the only question about this feature is why did Google take so long to implement it. It’s even more surprising when you consider that it uses the same technology as existing features and has added to the mobile version of the browser.
But with the appearance of the trait, these questions become unimportant; It is important that the partition has restored faster and faster. Of course, it’s not a huge speed increase or one that has a tremendous impact on performance. But that doesn’t make it any less useful.
Everything that has done to eliminate lags and delays in work and concentration processes. No matter how small – has to be accepted and it’s hard to imagine that something very similar won’t be showing up in more browsers any time soon.
