Google is Planning to Build new Silicon Valley Campus with Hardware Center

Google is planning another campus in Silicon Valley that will consist of a new center for some of its hardware products, CNBC reports. Google bought land north of San Jose, California, according to CNBC, and spent more than $389 million on what was originally planned to include a research and development center.

The campus, as Midpoint calls it, will be located between Google’s current Mountain View headquarters and the multi-purpose campus in San Jose.

Midpoint will have five office buildings connected by pedestrian bridges and accommodate up to three industrial buildings which, according to the planning documents, will serve as hubs for the hardware division, including Nest smart home products. The docs also show that Google is planning sites for Midpoint starting in 2001

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday, but the campus, which has more hardware space, makes sense given recent statements from executives. Rick Osterloch, the company’s CEO, said Google is poised to capture market share in the hardware space.

As Dieter Bohn of The Verge noted after a newly visit to Mountain View to see the Pixel 6, Google’s flagship has a small market share if we compared with Apple and Samsung.
