Gigi Hadid has confirmed that she is leaving the social networking site Twitter. In her announcement, she called it a “cesspool of hate and prejudice.”
The 27-year-old supermodel took to Instagram on Friday to say that she has deleted her account on the social media site. This comes after Elon Musk took over the site and laid off a lot of people, including people on the human rights team.
“It’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate and intolerance, and its [sic] not a place I want to be a part of,” Hadid said of Musk. “This has been the case for a long time, but especially with its new leadership.”
She also sent an apology to her followers on the network, noting that she cherished the opportunity to communicate with them.
She said, “I can’t stay; it’s neither a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than damage.” “I can’t stay it’s a safe place for anyone.”
In addition to her own announcement post, she included a tweet by Human Rights Counsel Shannon Raj Singh, in which she discussed her termination from the internet company.
To inform those who are unaware, Twitter terminated the employment of over half of its workforce on Friday. An email sent to employees explained that the layoffs were “essential to secure the company’s success moving ahead.”
