France and Italy avoid the AstraZeneca vaccine as the UK program evolutions

Doctors in France have reported side effects after taking AstraZeneca vaccine. Italians fear the vaccine is less effective than Pfizer.

Doctors in Italy and France also claim that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) causes side effects. And on the other side, other vaccines are more effective.

France has restricted the use of vaccines to people over the age of 65 for fear it will be less effective for them, following comments from French President Emmanuel Macron.

Some French medics reported has abandoned the vaccine altogether. So far, 149 out of 10,000 doctors vaccinated in France have developed “high-intensity flu symptoms” after taking a dose of the Oxford vaccine. According to France’s National Drug Safety Administration, which reports fever, aches and headaches.

The government has advised medical professionals to apply for vaccinations to keep their facilities running.

Doctors in Italy have raised similar concerns, preferring the Pfizer BionTech vaccine.

One doctor told the Italian newspaper La Stampa that he had rejected the AstraZeneca vaccine. Adding, “Why have they vaccinated hospital gardeners with more efficient vaccines while we doctors, who each day risk infection or risk infecting others, are offered something less efficient?

Like France, Italy has limited AstraZeneca’s use to those under 55 due to concerns about its effectiveness compared to Pfizer. He has prioritized vaccinating government employees and the elderly by using supplies from Pfizer’s stinger. And a third vaccine produced by Moderna.

Since Pfizer and Moderna are more efficient, we want to keep them for older, more vulnerable Italians,” said an Italian health spokesman.

To date, only 1.53 million Italians have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Compared to 14 million in the UK, where there are no similar concerns about the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
