Former Interior Minister Ch Nisar was not permitted to take oath as MPA

Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was barred from taking the oath of MPA on Monday by the Secretariat of the Punjab Assembly. The exiled PML-N leader came to the Punjab Assembly three years after being elected to the Chamber to take the oath as MPA.

However, the assembly secretariat told him he was unable to take the oath due to the absence of a spokesperson and vice president – reasons the senior Chakri politician later rejected in a media interview.

“Three weeks ago, I delivered my oath notification to the General Election Commission of Pakistan and the Punjab Assembly, but I was not allowed to take the oath on the pretext of no spokesperson and deputy spokesperson,” Nisar said as he spoke to external media.

Ch Nisar waited an hour in the speaker’s office before leaving the Punjab Assembly room. He also told the media that the country needed a policy of reconciliation rather than confrontation. “Trust me, I am not part of the political game,” he said when asked about rumors circulating in the media about his future role in the political system.

Regarding the matter, Punjab Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bati said: “We are not rejecting him to take the oath. There are three petitions waiting on the bench of the Lahore High Court in Rawalpindi, while two at the LHC Lahore bank are awaiting a decision against him. We do not know about their recent circumstances. We will allow him to take the oath once he accepts his current petition status, “he said.
