Following an almost 10-year delay Kuwait resumes visas for Pakistanis

Kuwait has again issued work visas to Pakistanis after a gap of nearly 10 years, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry confirmed.

A day earlier it was reported that Kuwait had officially reinstated family and business visas for Pakistanis after a decade of suspension.

The two events follow a meeting between Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed and Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah in Kuwait last week.

Note that Kuwait banned visas to Pakistan in 2011 and the previous government failed to reintroduce visas despite many attempts.

Since taking office in 2018, the current government is trying to return visas to Pakistanis to Kuwait.

Last November, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi met his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of the 47th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Niger.

The issue of suspending Kuwaiti visas for Pakistanis was discussed when the two high-level officials agreed to work closely together to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in various fields.

In March this year, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid announced that Kuwait had decided to lift the visa ban for Pakistanis and would soon issue visas to Pakistanis again.
