FM Qureshi says the US pressure Pakistan to close ties with China

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi confirmed that the US is using various means to pressure Pakistan to cut ties with Islamabad’s friend, China, in all weather.

He revealed this while speaking to a private news broadcaster when asked how Washington pressured Islamabad to cut ties with Beijing.

The Foreign Minister explained that Pakistan’s policy was based on its own interests and added: “We also want to strengthen bilateral relations with the US.”

Speaking to Geo News, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan has its own interests and wants to strengthen ties with the United States.

He said China never wanted Pakistan to end ties with the United States. Having relations with China does not mean Pakistan is not a friend of the United States, he added.

He said China was an emerging world power and would overtake the United States in the years to come, adding that such developments had created fear in the West.

Speaking at the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Qureshi said the billion-dollar project is a necessity for the country and will continue to move like it or not.

He said several elements were working to undermine it, adding that India was also concerned about CPEC’s success.
