Florida building collapse: 18 dead and more than 140 residents are still missing

An engineer found evidence of major structural damage below the pool deck and concrete damage in the underground parking lot.

Searchers are trying to find more than 140 residents missing of the incident of Florida building collapse some days ago. The death toll rose to eighteen after rescue workers found a more dead bodies during search for the site in Surfside, Miami. Their families have notified of causalities.

Officials said they hoped some of the 140+ unidentified people may still be alive. We are using every possible equipment to rescue them. Our top priority remains to find and save all human lives that we can. It has not still clear that which type of damage collapsed the 40 years old building around 1:30 AM.

The biggest thing right now is hope. We only realized it then. This is a very difficult situation. We are using dogs, infrared scanners and heavy equipment. Rescue teams are hoping people can survive in air pockets that may have formed in the debris.

A report published by the city council shows that authorities are in preparation for a major renovation project planned for this year. Deputy Mayor called the structural problems described in the document are deeply worrying.
