First time in history of Pakistan there is Empower of Local Government System: Imran Khan

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Imran Khan declared that for the first time in Pakistan’s 74-year history, the country now has a “strong and empowered” local government structure.

The Prime Minister Said on Twitter, “Amidst the noise over K-P [Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa] LG election, no one realizes these elections are [the] start of modern, devolved LG system as exists in successful democracies.”

“Directly elected tehsil nazims will strengthen governance while also grooming the next generation of leaders.” We now have an empowered LG system for the first time in our 74-year history.”

In a big setback for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was able to secure the maximum number of seats in the provincial Legislative Assembly elections for 39 tehsils on Sunday, handing the PTI a major defeat.

After the ruling party suffered a setback in the first phase of local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), the premier called a meeting of PTI leaders and spokespersons in the federal capital on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had previously stated on Tuesday that the wrong candidate selection was a major reason for the failure to win the first phase of the K-P local government elections.

He had stated in a tweet that the PTI had made mistakes in the first phase of the elections and had paid the price as a result.

Moreover, PM Imran Khan will see the PTI’s local government election strategy in the second phase of K-P elections and in local government elections across Pakistan, who expressed the expectation that the party will emerge stronger as a result of his decision.
