UN have heard of starvation-related deaths. People have to wake up. The international community urgently needs to be strengthening, including through the provision of money. Fear of famine in Tigray region of Ethiopia had devastated economy. Businesses, crops and agriculture, banking or telecommunications services have collapsed also.
This is the worst hunger problem the world has experienced in a decade. Right now there is a risk of losing the lives of hundreds of thousands or worse. Whereas, Hundreds of thousands of people are currently starving in northern Ethiopia.
The UN chief for humanitarian affairs has warned that hundreds of thousands or more people could die by fear of famine in Ethiopia. It’s only due to fighting in area of Tigray as well as in the north of the country. He added that there were more than a million people in places controlled by the Tigrayan opposition forces. There were also deliberate repeating attempts to prevent them from eating.
What is actual reason causing the fear of famine?
Ethiopian Prime Minister was winner of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize. He ordered a ground and air military operation in Tigray in early November 2020 after accusing the ruling party in the north. The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) organized the attack army camp.
The six-month conflict in Tigray has been blamed for the deaths of thousands and atrocities such as rape, extrajudicial killings and evictions. The conflict has destroyed livelihoods and infrastructure leading to mass killings, kidnappings and sexual violence. Access for aid workers is impossible because men do with guns and bombs and what their political superiors tell them to do. There are places controlled by Eritrea and other places controlled by police groups that are very difficult to provide assistance.
What should have to do for Ethiopians?
According to UN, leaders from the seven major industrialized nations should put the impending humanitarian crisis and hunger in northern Ethiopia on the agenda of their summit in Cornwall, England. Nations are United States, Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Italy and Canada.
Prime Minister must have to do as he says and force Eritreans to leave Ethiopia. Moreover, all blockades should be lifted. Eritreans are responsible for much of this need to withdraw should help reach those at risk of starvation.
