Fall in coronavirus infections has slowed in UK

The speed of fall in coronavirus infections in England has slowed and within the capital it should even get on the increase, worrying new figures show.

One in every 213 people within the country continues to be testing positive for Covid-19, the Imperial College London’s React study found.

In some parts of the country, the speed of fall in coronavirus has changed and in places. There are hints that rates are increasing, the info suggests.

Researchers have warned that if the infection rate starts to increase. People who have had a stroke could become infected immediately.

They said infection rates have to get as low as possible to allow the vaccination program the simplest chance of working.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that there’s “some cause for concern” that progress within the reduction in infections may be slowing down.

The study also showed that some professions had higher infection rates than others during the national lockdown. Including the teaching and transportation professions.

Scientists have previously said that the roles which are “open” are likely to hold higher rates of infection during this era. When other workers reside at home.

The React study at Imperial College London’s React analyzed data from tests on tampons taken from people in the UK since May last year.

To date quite 1.4 million people have provided swabs so experts can assess infection rates across the country.

The latest round of tests was conducted in February – the second month of the national lockdown – with 165,000 people participating.

The study, which has published as a pre-print, drew a variety of conclusions, including:

689 people within the study tested positive for the virus.

The speed of infection within the community was 0.49 percent – down by two-thirds from January when the speed was 1.57 percent.

But when researchers compared the decline from the primary half of February to the last half. There was a slower rate of reduction.

In the half of February, the estimated rate of infection was 0.51 percent and within the half of the month. The speed was 0.47 percent.

Researchers noted apparent rises in London, the South East, and therefore the Midlands.

People with a Pakistani background were found to own higher rates of infection compared to other ethnic groups.

Includes “Healthcare, care, transport workers, education workers and teachers. They were found to own higher rates of infection than people who didn’t add these professions.

Home workers had a discount within the odds of being infected.

Mentioning on the study, Mr. Hancock said: “There is some cause for concern that our hard-won progress may be slowing down. Even reversing in some regions so it is important we remain vigilant – this is on all of us”.

“We have set out a cautious but irreversible approach to easing restrictions. But until we reach each milestone we must all remember the virus is still here, and still dangerous”.

“Please continue to stay at home – practice hands, face, space – and get your jab when you receive your invite so we can bring down infections further”.
