A petition filed by PTI against Raza Gillan’s senate victory rejected by ECP

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Election Commission (ECP) denied the PTI’s request to block the announcement of the victory of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani’s Senate.

The leaderĀ of the PPP Yousaf Raza Gillani beat Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the latest Senate race, polling 169 votes to Shaikh’s 164. Six ballots have been rejected and one has not been polled.

However, the ECP held a hearing to address the Ali Haider Gillani video controversy on 22 March and sent notices to all parties to the investigation.

Following the verdict, PTI’s Maleeka Bokhari said that the first section of their petition, relating to Ali Haider Gillani’s film, had been kept up to date.
“If you [Yousaf Raza Gillani] and your son are sent notices and asked to justify why you used unethical tactics and robbed votes, you’ve already lost,” Bokhari told Gillani.

“Get out of the fight for the PDM nominee for a Senate election,” she said to the former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, noting that he no longer had any legal basis for contesting the Senate President’s election.

Bokhari said a question mark had been posed on the argument of the former prime minister to be “Sadiq and Ameen.”
