Dr. Sania Nishtar assures the Senate that the Ehsaas initiative is fair and transparent

In a statement on Friday, Dr Sania Nishtar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, said that the Ehsaas programme, which was launched by the government, is “completely unbiased and transparent.”

According to her, the “One Window Ehsaas” programme was being unscaled nationwide, and 20 other Ehsaas programmes were also in operation, including the Ehsaas Langars programme, the Ethnic Minority Panagahs programme, and the Koye Bhooka Na Soye programme, she said in response to a question during Senate proceedings.

She stated that a thorough report on the Ehsaas programme would be released as soon as possible.

The SAPM went on to say that instead of criticising the Ehsaas projects in front of the media, the opposition should make suggestions for how to make them even better.

Because of “corruption in BISP,” Sania Nishtar stated that the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was an institution and was not associated with Panagahs or Langarkhanas. She also stated that numerous investigations were underway.

Her statement went on to say that the Ehsaas Kafaalat provides cash stipends of Rs2,000 per month to the most deserving and impoverished women in the country.

She went on to say that “Conditional Cash Transfers” were also an important pillar of Ehsaas, and that the Ehsaas Emergency Cash programme had been developed in response to the economic hardship that people were experiencing as a result of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Dr Nishtar further stated that the initiative covered more than 15 million families and had a total expenditure of Rs203 billion, according to him.
