China warns US to stay away form Taiwan Issue

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the United States was concerned about China’s aggressive actions against Taiwan issue. It issued guidelines that would allow US officials to more freely meet officials on the island that China claims belongs to them. Taipei, like most countries, also the United States is the main international supporter and arms dealer in Taiwan.

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced days before former President Donald Trump’s presidency ended in January. He would lift restrictions on contact between US officials and their Taiwanese counterparts. The United States has a legal obligation to provide restoration to the island. The US State Department’s decision to deepen ties with self-governing Taiwan comes amid increasing Chinese military activity on the island. Also including near-daily air strikes on Taiwan’s air defense zones.

China warns the US to stop playing with Taiwan and filed a complaint. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters that they had submitted a “firm statement” to the United States. China urged the United States “not to play with the Taiwan issue, to end all official contacts between the US and Taiwan immediately. Also to handle the matter with care and precision”. “Do not damage Sino-US relations and cross-strait peace and stability,” he said.

“Don’t stand on the other side of China’s 1.4 billion people,” he added.

China believes the United States will agree to Taiwan against Beijing and support those who want the island to declare official independence. Taiwan is China’s most sensitive territorial and diplomatic issue and a common source of Sino-US friction.
