China has categorically condemned certain media outlets for spreading false information in a deliberate attempt to defame the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and relations between Pakistan and China.
Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said during a regular briefing on Tuesday that the country “firmly rejects certain media’s attempts that violate its professional ethics, as well as the creation of fake news with the deliberate attempt to smear CPEC construction and relations between China and Pakistan.”
An article in the local press reported on protests in the Gwadar region against alleged excessive fishing privileges granted to Chinese trawlers, a move that the article claimed was harming the livelihood of local fishermen.
During the briefing, an Indian journalist said that protests had taken place in Gwadar the previous week.
China, on the other hand, said that the so-called media report and accusations were false after a thorough investigation.

“This is absolutely false information. The protests against China in the Gwadar region have been blown out of proportion by certain media outlets, according to a Chinese spokeswoman.
According to Lijian, a spokesperson for the Chinese government, no Chinese trawlers visited the Gwadar Port region for fishing or docking.
He reaffirmed that Gwadar Port, as a key project of the CPEC, had been focusing on developing and improving the livelihood of the local population.
He went on to say that when it came to expanding relevant collaboration, China consistently adhered to the principles of mutual respect and consensus.
