The popular Chinese blogger, arrested earlier this year for commenting on military casualties in the Galvan Valley clash with India, was sentenced to eight months in prison.
Qiu Ziming, an internet celebrity with more than 2.5 million followers, was sentenced to eight months in prison on Monday for “‘defaming martyrs”.
The blogger, known online as Labixiaoqiu, was also ordered to publicly apologize via major domestic portals and national media within 10 days, as ordered by a court in Nanjing, east China’s Jiangsu Province.
The court found that Qiu “confessed the truth about his crime,” pleaded guilty, and told the court he would never commit another crime, which resulted in a lighter sentence.
On March 1, Kiu specifically apologized for his comments during a broadcast on China’s state-run CCTV, the Global Times reported.

“I’m so ashamed and I’m so sorry,” the 38-year-old said. The comments came after China first admitted that four of its soldiers were killed and one seriously injured in clashes in the Himalayas.
