Imports of cell phones into the country witnessed a 63.40 percent increase during the first eleven months of the current financial year (2020-21) compared to the corresponding period last year.
Imports of cell phones into the country during May 2021 were reported at $175.501 million, an increase of 58.03 million against exports of $111,056 million in May 2020.
Every month, cell phone imports also increased 17.79 percent during May 2021, compared to imports of $148. 992 million as of April 2021, according to the data.
It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s global merchandise exports increased by 14.05% during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year (2020-21) compared to the corresponding period last year.
The country’s exports during July-May(2020-21) were reported at $22.576 billion against exports of $19.795 billion during July-May(2019-20), according to the latest PBS data.
Based on the figures, the country’s trade deficit increased by 30.44% during the period under review, compared to the corresponding period last year.
The trade deficit for the period was $27.463 billion, compared to a deficit of $21.054 billion last year.
