WhatsApp users have been craving audio and video calling functionality on the desktop app since it was announced. Currently, WhatsApp users can only use the platform to share and receive messages and media.
However, that was about to change. According to recent findings from WABetainfo, audio and video calling functions are included in the desktop application. Beta users who receive the update will be able to see the appropriate button in the chat header next to the search icon. Currently, users cannot use the feature if their smartphone is not connected to Wi-Fi even though all audio or video calls are routed through their computer.
We’re not sure if the desktop app supports third-party microphones or cameras. However, we hope this will happen when a stable compile update is released.
WhatsApp plans to make this feature available on WhatsApp PC for some time. The company even plans to launch a standalone app for the service so that users don’t have to pair their smartphone with an app or browser. We don’t have any further information on administration ourselves so take it with a pinch of salt.
