‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ tops North American box office

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” took in an estimated $67.3 million over the weekend, according to exhibitor relations.


Trade publications said that the sequel to the very popular “Black Panther” did not do as well as expected, even though it made $546 million worldwide.


It made more than seven times as much as its closest competition in North American cinemas, “The Menu,” which made $9 million Friday-Sunday.


Ralph Fiennes plays a celebrity chef who makes a scary supper for a gathering of wealthy, entitled people (including Anya Taylor-Joy of “The Queen’s Gambit”).


“The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 and 2” took third with $8.2 million. Franchise Entertainment Research’s David A. Gross called it a “promising start” for a Christian drama.


“Black Adam” earned $4.5 million in its fifth week. Shazam! stars Dwayne Johnson.
“Ticket to Paradise” ($3.2 million) was the fifth. Clooney and Roberts star.
