On Tuesday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said authorities were close to tracking down one of the suspects responsible for the physical attack on journalist Assad Ali Toor in Islamabad last week.
During a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said that the National Registration and Database Authority (NADRA), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the police were investigating the incident.
Fingerprints will be identified within a day or two, he said, adding that advertisements would be published in newspapers if authorities did not trace the suspect.
He said the receptionist who recorded his testimony said he did not stop the perpetrators because they had visited them in the past.

He said it was necessary to catch the guilty because some people “don’t need” to go to state security services to please “foreign rulers”.
“I think if we can reach out to these perpetrators, anyone who blames our institutions will be silenced,” he said, adding that these people are aware of the damage they are doing to the country’s image in the eyes of the world, not aware.
