At the Venice Film Festival, Jamie Lee Curtis will receive a lifetime achievement award

The newest edition of Jamie Lee Curtis’s “Halloween” flicks will show out of competition at the Venice International Film Festival in September, where she will receive a lifetime achievement award, organizers said on Wednesday.

Curtis made her cinematic debut as babysitter Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s 1978 horror thriller “Halloween,” in which she squared up against lethal serial murderer Michael Myers.

“Italian Cinema has always appreciated and applauded the genre that gave me my career, therefore I couldn’t be happier to accept this prizeā€¦ on behalf of Laurie and all the strong women throughout the world who refuse to surrender in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.”

The 62-year-old, who is also renowned for “True Lies,” “Freaky Friday,” and “Knives Out,” will be honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the festival’s 78th edition before an out-of-competition screening of “Halloween Kills,” which is set to hit theaters in October.

“Jamie Lee Curtis is one of a select handful of Hollywood actresses that best exemplify the principles that define the global cinema industry and its heritage,” said festival director Alberto Barbera.

The festival will take place from September 1 to 11. _ Reuters
