According to police, at least 20 persons were injured on Tuesday morning as 30 vehicles piled up in three different sites across Pakistan owing to strong fog, according to the police.
The vehicles, mostly cars, backed up on the M-2 motorway between the Kala Shah Kaku and Qila Sattar Shah sections in the Sheikhupura district of Punjab, according to a police official who spoke to local media. The source said that the dense fog caused the vehicles, mostly cars, to back up.
In addition, many cars collided with one another on the M-1 motorway in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province as a result of the severe fog, causing more than six persons to be hurt.
Immediately, police and rescue crews descended on the locations and transported the injured to local hospitals.
According to medical sources quoted in local media, at least ten of the injured had critical injuries and are currently being treated in intensive care units.
According to the police, the accidents occurred after visibility on the roads was reduced dramatically as a result of severe fog. Following the accidents, all types of traffic were barred from entering the highways and interstates.
