Artificial heart will go on sale in Europe this year

The artificial heart, which can be a savior for people with heart problems, is offered for sale in Europe after obtaining approval from the relevant authorities.

The technology called Aeson, developed by a French company called Carmat, will be available for purchase in the second quarter of 2021.

This device is cleverly designed to mimic the biological properties and normal heart movements. This artificial heart weighs 900 g and is battery operated. It perfectly reflects the mechanical circulation pump.

Stefan Piat, CEO of Carmat, discussed with Reuters his organization’s motives for developing such a device, saying:

“The idea behind this heart, which was born nearly 30 years ago, was to create a device that would replace heart transplants, a device that works physiologically like a human heart, one that’s pulsating, self-regulated, and compatible with blood.”

According to a report recently published in France, the device is expected to replace the actual heart for years in end-stage biventricular heart failure patients.

So far, the implants have only been approved as temporary implants for patients awaiting heart transplants.
