Apple delayed its return to corporate headquarters until at least January, Bloomberg reported. Bloomberg reports that Apple attributed the slowness to an increase in COVID-19 instances and new variations.
Apple has previously stated that all staff will return to office by October of the current year.
A staff letter acquired on Thursday by Bloomberg News said that Apple return to corporate office had delayed as early as January due to an increase in COVID-19 instances and new variants of the virus.
Employees have expected to work in the office at least three days a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays. Also with remote work opportunities, according to the note, according to Bloomberg. A month before returning to work, the iPhone manufacturer assured staff it would finalize reopening plans. Previously, all company employees had to return to work in October.
Some companies like Twitter and Facebook have told their employees that they can work from home indefinitely.
Apple has not responded to a Reuters request for comment outside of normal business hours.
Several companies in the United States have changed vaccination, camouflage, and return-to-work plans due to the recurrence of COVID-19 cases and the announcement of new guidelines by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The report stated that while Apple does not force staff to get vaccinated, it has pushed them to go on strike in protest of the situation. Employees at other tech businesses like Uber, Google, and Facebook must vaccinated before returning to work, as well.
