First reported by Insider, the e-commerce giant is seeking “experienced product leaders to develop Amazon’s digital currency and blockchain strategy and product roadmap”. The list that Amazon has confirmed as legitimate continues.
You will leverage your domain experience in Blockchain, Distributed Ledger, Central Bank Digital Currency, and Cryptocurrencies to develop the rationale for developing opportunities, manage overall vision and product strategy, and lead and invest in new opportunities.
Amazon.com doesn’t accept cryptocurrencies as a form of payment. But a spokesperson told Insider that the company is “inspired by innovations in the cryptocurrency space. And they has been researching what Amazon looks like”.
Amazon’s cloud department, Amazon Web Services (AWS), already has a managed blockchain service. But CEO Andy Jesse said in 2017, when he was head of AWS, that the company was “watching” the room. But AWS didn’t “see many practical cases of blockchain use being much broader than the use of distributed ledgers”. ZDNet reported at the time. That seems to change when this new list is a hint.
Apple published a similar list in May as business development manager for “Alternative Payments.” Key qualifications for the position include five years of experience “working in or with alternative payment providers such as digital wallets, BNPL, Fast Payment cryptocurrencies and more.”
