Alibaba Dismiss Female Employee over Sexual harassment Case

Alibaba has dismissed a female employee who had accused a supervisor of sexual assault earlier this year, accusing her of disseminating false and destructive information. Alibaba also accused her of distributing false and damaging information.

The lady, who was publicly identified as Zhou, was fired from the corporation on November 25, according to a report published on Sunday by the Wall Street Journal. Her then-supervisor, Wang Chengwe, was accused of molestation and rape while on a work trip, and she filed a complaint with the police.

Her departure was purportedly the consequence of her breaking internal corporate standards by disseminating false information against a company boss, according to media reports. According to the Journal, she also alleged that the corporation was aware of the problem but did nothing about it.

She has claimed that she was forced to drink until she was nearly unconscious, and that she awoke to find her then-supervisor kissing and touching her in a hotel room after drinking until she was nearly asleep. Alibaba, which terminated Wang’s employment, stated that it was conducting an internal investigation and was also collaborating with law enforcement. Several other workers were terminated or quit as a result of the event, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Alibaba has stated that it sought to cooperate with Zhou to pay legal and counselling bills as well as negotiate her exit from the firm, but Zhou refused to accept the conditions of those agreements. Although Zhou said she was in frequent touch with firm personnel following the event, the publication reported that she had also raised the possibility of requesting a prolonged leave of absence due to depression she had experienced as a result of the occurrence.

Zhou’s case was withdrawn in September when Chinese officials judged that Wang’s conduct did not reach to the level of a criminal offence, according to the Journal.

“I hope that one day, when this society addresses sexual-assault situations, people will no longer throw insults and abuse at the victims, and that there will be more care and concern,” Zhou stated, according to the Journal of Sexual Assault.

However, while Zhou’s case has received a lot of attention on social media, it stands in stark contrast to the case of Peng Shuai, a Chinese tennis player who vanished from public view after she claimed on social media that Zhang Gaoli, a former Chinese vice premier, had coerced her into having sexual relations with him. It has now been removed, and discussion of the case has been prohibited in China as a result of the censorship.
