Ahad Raza Mir plays Arj in Netflix’s Resident Evil adaption

Ahad Raza Mir, who plays Arjun Batra in the Netflix series, calls it a “whole new retelling that respects the lore.”

“Resident Evil” is a live-action series based on Capcom’s video game brand. Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Nuez co-star. Constantin Film, which created six games-based films, is behind the series. Mary Leah Sutton and Andrew Dabb write and executive produce.

Mir’s Pakistani work includes “Parwaaz Hay Junoon” (2018), “Aangan” (2018), “Ehd-e-Wafa” (2019), and “Yeh Dil Mera” (2019). (2019). ZEE5’s “Dhoop Ki Deewar” stars Mir and Sajal Aly. Mir has played Tybalt in “Romeo and Juliet” (2014) and Lennox in “Macbeth” in Canada (2015).

Mir says he’s played all the “Resident Evil” games and seen all the movies. He says his character is “crucial to the show’s emotional moments.”

“I understand Resident Evil’s backstory and story well. This series turns the lore on its head and presents it in a fresh way, says Mir.

“Because it’s a big series with a large fan base, they’re inventing new characters for folks who haven’t played the games or seen the show before. They can meet fresh characters, said Mir. “Creating a new franchise character was a major thing for me.”

Despite being set in 2036, the story arc takes place after a terrible epidemic. “In a zombie apocalypse or a virus like this, people behave in ways you can’t justify in normal life. Mir stated it was interesting to play in an intense universe. “As an actor, it’s fun but tough to create a universe of life and death in your mind and imagination. Every moment is heightened, whether action or emotion.

The actor thinks the show’s success lies in its portrayal. Mir: “Sometimes a show will feature a token brown person or Asian, but Netflix is getting rid of that.” “People are in the show not based on a stereotype of that character’s complexion — it’s more about ‘this is the appropriate person for the job.'” I like that.”

Mir wishes for a second season of “Resident Evil” I’ve heard there will be another series. It relies on the first performance. I’m optimistic.

The actor is filming season 2 of PBS Masterpiece and BBC’s “World on Fire” in Northern Ireland and has projects in Spain and Pakistan.

Mir appeared in “Hamlet: A Ghost Story” for The Shakespeare Company in 2019 and earned Canada’s Betty Mitchell Award for best actor. Later this year, he’ll produce “Hamlet” at a 1,200-seat Toronto theater.

Netflix debuts “Resident Evil” on July 14. Action Consultancy’s Hamid Hussain and Muhammad Yaqoob represent Mir.
