500,000 Sinopharm vaccination shots arrive in Islamabad on a PIA aircraft

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane landed in Islamabad from Beijing Capital International Airport on Tuesday carrying 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine.

Another 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine will be shipped from China to Pakistan via the national airline on Wednesday morning, Qadir Bux Sangi, PIA’s country manager for China, told APP.

Last week, special flight PK6852 carried a shipment of 500,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine from Beijing to Islamabad.

The government has decided to launch a large-scale vaccination campaign across the country and vaccinate 70 million doses against the pandemic. Nearly 5.3 million people have been vaccinated to date.

A spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that China has always attached importance to Pakistan’s demand for vaccines to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and has been cooperating with the country.

“Chinese vaccine manufacturers have been working with Pakistan to develop and produce vaccines from the start and will continue to export vaccines to Pakistan,” he said.

Pakistani health officials have launched a nationwide vaccination campaign of around one million doses of Sinopharm donated by China, starting with elderly and world-class health workers in March.

Driving starts with a focus on the oldest people in the community, usually over 80, and continues.

Initially, the government had to deal with vaccination variability and vaccine shortages, and the available photos were limited to people 30 years and over.

Islamabad received its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine after a military plane transported it from Beijing on February 1 this year.
